I've never sung in a choir before, do I need to audition?

No, My Town Choir is, and will always be non-auditioning. We believe that everyone can sing, so much so that we called our first choir by that name!

Will I have to sing in concerts?

Only if you want to. We would love everyone to sing in our concerts as the feeling of a great performance can't be beaten but we do understand that some people prefer just to sing in our weekly sessions. This is no problem at all, we want you to be happy at My Town Choir.

What type of music will I be singing?

We don't stick to one type of genre but enjoy exploring lots of different repertoire including musicals, gospel, classical, folk, pop & blues and world music. All sorts of stuff!

Do I need to be able to read music?

No, you don't have to read music although It certainly helps sometimes. We do use printed music but also learn by ear as well. All our repertoire is taught by ear and we also record parts for people to sing along with.

What makes My Town Choir different?

We offer everyone the opportunity to experience the feeling that singing together brings, you don't need to audition. Experienced, professional choir leaders equipped to encourage and bring the joy of singing. We sing a wide range of repertoire including gospel, classical, folk, musical theatre, pop and world music. Each local choir is given the opportunity to sing a programme that suits its members rather than a set-list of songs that every other choir performs. We also aim to help the community by putting on concerts to raise money for local charities chosen by the members of each My Town Choir.
